Government job in astrology: what to look for in your chart
Share
For many Indian families, a government job is still the gold standard: security, respect and a pension. So it's no surprise that "will I get a government job?" is one of the most common career questions put to astrologers, often by parents as much as by candidates. This article explains what a chart looks at for government service, what it can tell you, and how to use that alongside years of exam preparation.

What astrology looks at for a government job
Government and authority are traditionally linked with the Sun, and service with the 6th house. Astrologers look at:
- The Sun's strength and placement, especially its link to the 10th house of career. A well-placed Sun connected to the 10th is the classic indication of work with the state or in positions of authority.
- The 6th house, which describes service, competition and exams. A strong 6th helps in competitive selection.
- Saturn, linked with public service, administration and long-term stable employment.
- Timing: periods of the Sun, the 10th lord or the 6th lord tend to coincide with selection results.
What a reading can tell you
- Fit: whether your chart leans toward structured public service, or toward private, entrepreneurial or creative work. Some people spend years chasing a government job their temperament doesn't suit.
- Type of role: administrative, technical, teaching, defence, banking or public sector undertakings each show up differently.
- Windows: the periods when exams and interviews are most likely to convert. This helps you decide how many more attempts to plan for.
What it can't tell you
No chart replaces preparation. Exams are competitive, and a supportive period helps most when you're already close to the cut-off. A reading also can't tell you a specific exam result or rank. Be wary of anyone who claims it can.
How many more attempts?
This is the hardest question families face, and the most useful one to bring to a reading. A chart that shows strong windows in the next two years supports continuing with a clear plan. A chart that leans away from government service, or shows the next window far off, is a reason to build a parallel option, not necessarily to stop. Either way, it helps to decide together on a fixed number of attempts and a backup plan, rather than continuing indefinitely.
Practical remedies
- Mantras for the Sun, such as offering water to the rising Sun with a short mantra each morning.
- Donations on Sundays, such as wheat or jaggery, matched to the Sun.
- Habits: a fixed daily study routine and waking early both strengthen the Sun and Saturn's side of a chart, and they also happen to be what exam preparation needs.
We don't recommend gemstones. Discipline is the remedy that works on both levels.
For parents
If you're asking on behalf of your son or daughter, involve them. A reading that shows their real strengths can ease pressure at home and open a conversation about other good options. For younger children, our Kids reading looks at strengths and study direction earlier.
